Course Information

If you want to develop your knowledge of Retail Management so that you can embark on a rewarding career or maybe you are already working in a related field and want to improve your career prospects, then this is the course for you.

Retail managers are responsible for running stores or departments to meet a company’s targets and policies. The aim of any retail manager is to maximise profit while minimising costs. Retail managers ensure promotions are accurate and merchandised to the company’s standards, staff are fully versed on the target for the day and excellent customer care standards are met.

Depending on the size of the store, and company structure, retail managers may also be required to deal with human resources, marketing, logistics, information technology, customer service and finance.

The Distance Learning Retail Management course will develop your understanding of the wider commercial environment in which retail operates. Students will discover the importance of supply chain and inventory management and learn how to ensure that your team delivers excellent customer service. The role of pricing strategy will be discussed and you will learn how it influences consumer choice. Most importantly you will develop the ability to manage people and their performance.

What can you do with Retail Management?

You could work for a variety of retail organisations looking to improve their commercial performance by increasing turnover and maximising sales.

Your day-to-day activities may include:

  • managing and motivating teams to increase sales
  • overseeing recruitment and training of staff
  • keeping track of stock and ordering
  • organising sales promotions and in-store events
  • dealing with queries, complaints and feedback from customers
  • analysing sales figures and forecasting future sales

With experience you could progress into area or regional management.

You could also move into more specialist areas, like customer service, training and operations management.
