Course Information

This IGCSE Computer Science CAIE Course will allow you to study the principles and practices of computing and gain confidence in computational thinking and programming. You will learn to program by writing computer code and you will develop your understanding of the main principles of problem-solving using computers.

Students will apply their understanding to develop computer-based solutions to problems using algorithms and a high- level programming language. You will also develop a range of technical skills, as well as the ability to test effectively and to evaluate computing solutions.

This qualification helps students appreciate current and emerging computing technologies and the benefits of their use. You will learn to recognise the ethical issues and potential risks when using computers. Grades 9-1 are available.

With our IGCSEs, they are usually studied over one year, however if you would prefer to take your IGCSE course over two years, we will provide an additional year free of charge. Please let us know if you require an extension on your enrolment form.

The combination of knowledge and skills in Cambridge IGCSE (9–1) Computer Science gives students a solid foundation for further study. Candidates who achieve grades 4 to 9 are well prepared to follow a wide range of courses including Cambridge International AS & A Level Computer Science.

Cambridge IGCSEs are accepted by leading Universities and employers around the works as evidence of academic achievement. Many Universities require a combination of AS & A' Levels and IGCSEs or equivalent to meet their entry requirements.

Before you start your tutor will contact you to welcome you and, if you’re new to Learn Now, help you understand what study will be like. They’ll also clarify how and when they can be contacted, and how quickly they will respond to you.

Once you’ve started your tutor will mark and provide feedback on your assignments and support your progress throughout the course.

Throughout the course learning may happen in a practical way for example, learners must program in a high-level programming language such as Python. You will need access to a computer at home where you will be able to carry out certain tasks.

With regards to the exams, any practical element will be assessed through a written examination in paper 2. Therefore you will not need to sit a practical endorsement.

You will receive pre-release materials a couple of months prior to the exam and the purpose of the pre-release material tasks is to direct learners to some of the topics which will be examined in Paper 2.

The IGCSE is an international alternative to the GCSE and as the subjects are normally exam based only, make them ideal for students who are unable to attend a local school or college.

IGCSEs are internationally recognised and as well as being available in the UK, are also available worldwide. They are recognised by leading universities and employers worldwide, and are an international passport to progression and success.

It all depends on when you enrol. You will need to check the exam dates for your IGCSE subject and the number of guided learning hours to ensure that you can achieve your goals.
