What can I do with an A Level in Mathematics?

Students in the past have progressed onto the following degree courses:-

• Mathematics • Economics • Accounting • Physics
• Mechanical Engineering • Computer Science

Studying A’ Level Mathematics will enhance your chances of being accepted into University.

Previous Knowledge Required

There are no previous entry requirements for this course, however students are expected to have a reasonable standard of literacy.

You have the freedom to start the course at any time and continue your studies at your own pace for a period of up to 24 months from initial registration with the full support of your Tutor.

Our enrolment fee includes:

  • All study materials covering the full specification.
  • Full support where you can also message your tutor as many times as you need to.
  • Access to our online Library with a full range of eBooks.
  • Help completing university applications including UCAS and The Common Application.
  • Reference and predicted grade for University.

  • Fast Track A Level if required and flexible learning from home 24/7.

The only other fee you will need to pay is for your exams which is due approximately six months prior and this will be paid directly to the exam centre.

Assessments

Students will be required to arrange and pay for their examinations/practicals at CIE approved centre. We can provide an extensive list of these centres for you.

AS Level Exams
There are two exams for the AS Level qualification.

A Level Exams
There are four exams for the full A Level qualification.

AS Level

The Cambridge International AS Level Mathematics Online Course offers three different options:

Pure Mathematics only (Paper 1 and Paper 2) or

Paper 1 Paper 1 IAS Exams
Pure Mathematics and Mechanics (Paper 1 and Paper 4) or

Paper 1 Exam Paper 4 IAS Exams
Pure Mathematics and Probability & Statistics (Paper 1 and Paper 5)

Paper 1 Paper 1 IAS Exams

Please note, the Pure-Mathematics-only option (Paper 1 and Paper 2) leads to an AS Level only and cannot be used as a staged route to a full A Level. Candidates who have taken Paper 1 and Paper 2 at AS Level and then wish to complete a full A Level would need to retake Paper 1 alongside three other components. These should be chosen from the specific combinations below.

A Level

The Cambridge International A Level Mathematics qualification offers two different options:

Pure Mathematics, Mechanics and Probability & Statistics (Papers 1, 3, 4 and 5) or

Paper 1 Paper 1 Exam Paper 4 Paper 1 A Level Qualification
Pure Mathematics and Probability & Statistics (Papers 1, 3, 5 and 6).

Paper 1 Paper 1 Paper 1 Paper 1 A Level Qualification

Please note, it is not possible to combine Paper 4 and Paper 6. This is because Paper 6 depends on prior knowledge of the subject content for Paper 5.

FAQs

Still unsure? See below for more information on A Level Mathematics

If you haven’t covered Maths previously, we would recommend looking at our IGCSE Maths course or something of a similar level prior to taking the A Level.  However, if you have previously covered maths and are comfortable with Algebra, you should be fine with the A Level Mathematics course.  For A Level, algebra becomes much heavier than GCSE and topics connect such as trigonometry and calculus.  Questions will require multi-step reasoning and not just formulas.

You will not be required to purchase any books with this course.  We automatically include logins to our online e-Library which includes access to following eBook(s):

  • Cambridge International AS & A Level Mathematics Pure 1 – Sophie Goldie (Hodder Education)
  • Cambridge International AS & A Level Mathematics Pure 2 & 3 – Sophie Goldie (Hodder Education)
  • Cambridge International AS & A Level Mathematics Mechanics – Sophie Goldie (Hodder Education)
  • Cambridge International AS & A Level Mathematics Probability & Statistics 1 – Sophie Goldie (Hodder Education)
  • Cambridge International AS & A Level Mathematics Probability & Statistics 2 – Sophie Goldie (Hodder Education)

Not see the book you are looking for? Ask us and we will let you know if we have it!

  • A Level Further Mathematics – Combining Mathematics with Further Mathematics will deepen your knowledge of calculus, algebra, matrices and complex numbers.  If you are progressing onto Engineering, Physics, Actuarial Science or Mathematics degrees, gaining this knowledge at A Level will make the first year at university easier.
  • A Level Physics – For pathways onto Engineering, Architecture, Astrophysics or Aviation, these two subjects will reinforce each other.  Physics relies heavily on topics such as calculus and algebra and requires logic to problem solve much like Maths.

Cambridge International A Level Mathematics can be taken outside the UK as well as within the UK.  Cambridge provide global recognition for their A Level qualifications and are recognised by universities.

At the end of this course you will receive an Internationally recognised qualification which will allow you to apply a university situated anywhere in the world.

AS and A levels are standalone qualifications, however the Full A Level carries more UCAS points than the AS Level.  It also requires more study hours as follows:

  • AS Level = 180 hours
  • A Level = 360 hours

You will see the difference in the content above under ‘syllabus’ but you can also refer to our article on ‘what is as level’ for more information.

You will receive access and support for two years, however you can complete it much sooner if you want to.  Exams for this subject fall in May/June and October/November each year and therefore you are able to choose which exam sitting you want to apply for.  We have more information on exam timetables here.
