The A Level Physics Online course with Learn Now follows the AQA (7408) specification and is equivalent to the qualification you would achieve if attending mainstream college. Once completed, you will obtain UCAS points which will support progression to university in degrees such as Astrophysics, Computer Science, Nuclear Physics or Engineering.
This course would suit adult learners returning to education, students resitting exams or studying alongside other commitments, and learners looking to be accepted into University.

With this A Level Physics Course you will be able to explore the fundamental nature of almost everything we know of. You can probe the furthest reaches of the earth to study the smallest pieces of matter. Join Physicists and enter a world deep beneath the surface of normal human experiences.
The Full A Level has nine topics you will need to cover and the AS Level has five topics. These are listed below.
This topic will help you to understand how to measure physical quantities correctly, understand the uncertainty in measurements and estimate values realistically. These skills are essential for all physics experiments.
Particles and radiation will help you understand what matter is made of, how they interact and how energy is carried in discrete packets. You will start to see the link between atomic structure and quantum theory.
This topic will look at how waves behave, transfer energy and interact. You will see the difference between moving waves and standing patterns. Also, how waves bend, spread or combine in ways that explain natural and technological phenomena.
This topic will look into how objects move and interact under forces, how energy is transferred or stored and how different materials respond to forces. The modules form the basis for most classical physics and engineering problems.
Current electricity covers moving charges, voltage, resistance and how energy is transferred in circuits. It helps you to understand electrical devices, power supply and electronic circuits.
Periodic motion will help you to understand how oscillations and vibrations behave including their energy patterns. Thermal physics will show how heat and temperature affect matter, how gases behave and how energy flows.
This topic will look at how forces act without contact. Fields allow us to predict motion, store energy and generate electricity. This forms a basis for astronomy, electronics and electromagnetism.
This topic will cover unstable nuclei, the types of radiation they emit and how they decay over time. This is crucial for understanding nuclear energy, medical technologies and radiation.
The optional topic for this section which has been chosen is Astrophysics. Astrophysics uses physics to understand space, explain more about stars, understand how galaxies form and how the universe evolves.
Students in the past have progressed onto the following degree courses:-
• Mathematics • Physics • Mechanical Engineering
• Computer Science • Civil Engineering
• Economics • Business
Studying A’ Level Physics at University gives you all sorts of exciting career options, including:-
• Geophysicist • Healthcare scientist • Higher
education lecturer • Radiation protection
practitioner • Research scientist (physical
sciences) • Scientific laboratory technician
• Secondary school teacher • Meteorologist
• Structural engineer • Acoustic engineer
• Product/process development scientist
• Systems developer • Technical author
You can also move into engineering, astrophysics, chemical physics, nanotechnology, renewable energy and more, the opportunities are endless.
There are no previous entry requirements for this course, however students are expected to have a reasonable standard of literacy.
You have the freedom to start the course at any time and continue your studies at your own pace for a period of up to 24 months from initial registration with the full support of your Tutor.
Our Enrolment fee for this course is noted at the top of this page where you can enrol directly onto the course. This fee includes access to your course including tutor support for 2 years.
Our enrolment fee includes:
The only other fee you will need to pay is for your exams which is due approximately six months prior and this will be paid directly to the exam centre.
Students will be required to arrange and pay for their examinations/practicals at an AQA approved centre. We can provide an extensive list of these centres for you.
A Level Exams
There are three exams for the full A Level qualification. The length of each exam is two hours long.
AS Level Exams
There are two exams for the AS Level qualification. The length of each exam is 1 hour 30 minutes long.
This A’ Level Physics course forms part of the linear qualifications. This means that learners will sit exams for their particular qualification at the end of the completed course in the June series.
You will not be able to carry forward your AS qualification to the A’ Level qualification as they are now classed as entirely independent qualifications and you will sit either AS or A’ Level exams.
Assessment of practical skills in the AS specification will be by written exams only. Therefore the practical endorsement does not apply to the AS specification. At least 15% of the marks for the AS Physics qualification will require the assessment of practical skills through written exams only.
For the Full A Level, practical assessments have been divided into those that can be assessed in written exams and those that can only be directly assessed whilst learners are carrying out experiments.
A-level grades will be based only on marks from written exams. A separate endorsement of practical skills can be taken alongside the A-level.

On successful completion of all your exams for the A Level Physics Online Course, you will be awarded one of the following qualifications:
A Level in Physics with AQA | AS Level in Physics with AQA

A Level Physics may feel challenging to some learners due to the Maths involved such as algebra, trigonometry and calculus. You may also struggle with topics where you cannot see ideas directly. For example, quantum physics, electric fields and particle physics. However, if you are good at thinking logically and enjoy understanding how the universe works, you will enjoy topics like astrophysics, nuclear physics and mechanics. Many learners who work through the Physics course find it one of the most rewarding subjects on offer.
You will not be required to purchase any books with this course. We automatically include logins to our online e-Library which includes access to following eBook(s):
AQA A Level Physics Year 1 – Nick England, Jeremy Pollard, Nicky Thomas (Hodder Education)
AQA A Level Physics Year 2 – Nick England, Jeremy Pollard, Nicky Thomas (Hodder Education)
Not see the book you are looking for? Ask us and we will let you know if we have it!
A Level Mathematics – Mathematics helps improve our understanding for equations, mechanics, waves and quantum physics. It is also generally required for progression onto Physics degrees.
The AQA Physics course can only be taken within the UK and some British Overseas Territories. If you are looking take A Level Physics outside the UK, you could have a look at our Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel A Level Physics courses. Exam centres for these are located worldwide.
AS and A levels are standalone qualifications, however the Full A Level carries more UCAS points than the AS Level. It also requires more study hours as follows:
You will see the difference in the content above under ‘syllabus’ but you can also refer to our article on ‘what is as level’ for more information.
You will receive access and support for two years, however you can complete it much sooner if you want to. Exams for this subject fall in May/June each year and therefore you are able to choose which exam sitting you want to apply for. We have more information on exam timetables here.
