FAQs

How should I start preparing?

First of all, understand the exam format.  Look at past papers along with their mark schemes and get a feel for what is being asked of you.  Have the full syllabus to hand and make sure you know what topics are important.

If you have been working through a course or with an online tutor, you should have some idea of your weaker areas.  If they are areas where you still require further help, work on them with a tutor.

Finally, stay calm and don’t cram new topics in the night before.  Go over your study notes and review everything you have learnt.

Read through each exam question, then allocate time to each question.

Missing an instruction can affect the marks of your whole paper, so you should read all the instructions carefully at the beginning of the exam.

As you are working through the exam paper, make sure to read every question slowly and grasp exactly what is being asked of you before you begin your answer.

Discuss this with the exam board or centre.  They will be able to advise how much additional time can be allocated.

This depends on the subject, but in most cases it would be a no.  Check this with the exam centre prior to the exams.
