If you are looking for a career in Health and Social Care, then this is the course for you.  The Health and Social Care Level 2 course will provide you with an introduction to this exciting and rewarding career; enabling employers to take you seriously knowing that you have a thorough understanding of the role of a health and social care worker.

To work in care is to make a positive difference to someone’s life.  You will need to have good communication and listening skills and feel passionate about supporting other people to live a more independent and fulfilling life.

There is a huge demand for workers, plenty of opportunities for progression and 96% of workers said they feel their work makes a difference.

You do NOT require a work placement to complete this course and you can study in your own time with the support of your Tutor.

Health and Social Care


Here we will concentrate on communicating with individuals using appropriate methods for the situation and individuals you are working with.

This unit is about the importance of personal development and reflective practice on health and social care. You will look at the skills, knowledge and understanding required in your work role and how you can plan development.

Here we recognise equality and diversity and how to work in an inclusive way. See how discrimination might happen and how you can work in a way to prevent it. You will also look at where to go for support, advice and information.

This unit is about the importance of your duty of care to those that you work with. You will develop an understanding of dilemmas that may arise from this, and how complaints should be handled.

In this section you will learn about what is meant by abuse and how to recognise the signs of abuse. You will also consider the factors that make abuse more likely.

In this unit you will learn about your role as health and social care worker. You will look at working relationships, the importance of team working and how to work in partnership with others.

In this unit you will learn about the importance of putting the individual at the centre of everything you do. You will look at person-centred values and how these should be applied in practice. We will also cover the importance of gaining consent and how to support individuals to make decisions based on accurate information.

In this unit you will learn about the importance of health and safety in health and social care settings. This will include your responsibilities in relation to the law and workplace policies and procedures.

In this unit you will learn about the importance of secure handling of information in health and social care settings. You will look at how information is kept secure and how to complete records.

Previous Knowledge Required

There are no previous entry requirements for this course, however students are expected to have a reasonable standard of literacy. You have the freedom to start the course at any time and continue your studies at your own pace for a period of up to 12 months from initial registration with the full support of your Tutor.


You must successfully complete a series of assessments. Once all assessments and activities have been completed and you have met the required outcomes, you will then be awarded your certificate. The good news is, there is no final exam.

Abstract Education

At the end of this course successful learners will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement by Abstract Education and a Learner Unit Summary (which lists the details of all of the units you have completed as part of your course).

The Level 2 Health and Social Care course has been benchmarked at a level 2 which would give you some indication as to the difficulty of this course. I.e., GCSE would be equivalent to Level 2 and A’ Level would be equivalent to Level 3.


You could work in the NHS, at a private hospital or nursing home, or in the community.

The work you do will be part of an agreed programme of care, and you'll be supervised by senior members of staff.

Your day-to-day tasks could include:

  • helping patients shower and get dressed
  • helping people eat
  • making beds
  • using equipment to lift and move patients
  • talking to patients and reassuring them
  • helping patients to the toilet
  • tidying the ward or patients’ homes
  • attending meetings with other healthcare professionals
With experience you could train new healthcare assistants.

With training, you could become an assistant practitioner in chiropody or podiatry, occupational therapy, radiography or physiotherapy.

You could also apply to train as a nurse, radiographer, dietitian, midwife or social worker.

Once you’ve started your tutor will mark and provide feedback on your assignments and support your progress throughout the course.
