The Cambridge specification will give you the opportunity to study Biology, Chemistry and Physics within a cross-referenced, scientifically coherent syllabus. It is a double award qualification, earning two grades.
Learners gain an understanding of the basic principles of each subject through a mix of theoretical and practical studies, while also developing an understanding of the scientific skills essential for further study.
You learn how science is studied and practised, and will become aware that the results of scientific research can have both good and bad effects on individuals, communities and the environment. As well as focusing on the individual sciences, the syllabus helps students to understand the technological world in which they live, and take an informed interest in science and scientific developments.

Edexcel IGCSE Science (Combined)
Specification Code: 4SD0 (9-1)
The Pearson specification takes approximately two-thirds of the subject content of each of the Edexcel International GCSEs in single sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics), and combines them into an International GCSE in Science (Double Award) worth two GCSEs.
This syllabus will allow you to acquire scientific knowledge and facts, and an understanding of scientific concepts, principles, themes and patterns. You will also sustain and develop an enjoyment of, and interest in, the scientific world.

FAQs
Will I find this course hard?
The course covers biology, chemistry and physics, however fewer topics are covered than if you were completing all three sciences separately. Whilst less topics are covered, learners will still need to develop scientific methods, practical skills and have mathematical understanding.
If you enjoy learning about the world around us, carrying out experiments and solving scientific problems, you will be fine with this subject.

Which subjects should I study alongside this course?
Mathematics – This subject will help you carry out scientific calculations such as speed, density and concentration.
Geography – This subject provides you with an understanding of renewable energy and environmental sustainability.
Where can the subject take me?
The course will open doors to a variety of subjects. You may want to progress onto A Levels in subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science and Geography.
After A Levels, degree options include Nursing, Environmental Science, Sports Science, Psychology and Agriculture.
If you don’t want to progress onto A Levels, you might want to consider a level 3 apprenticeship which would allow you to earn whilst you learn. Vacancies include laboratory technician and many more.
Overall the subject will develop valuable skills in problem-solving, logical thinking and mathematics reasoning.
Can I study this course from outside the UK?
Pearson Edexcel and Cambridge (CIE) qualifications can be taken inside and outside the UK. Content within the specification is adapted for international learners and the qualification is comparable to UK GCSE standards.
How long does the course take?
You will receive access and support for two years, however you can complete the course much sooner if you need to. Exams for this subject fall in May/June or October/November each year and therefore you are able to choose which exam sitting you want to apply for. We have more information on exam timetables here.
How does this course compare to a college GCSE?

Combined Science could lead on to further study in Biology, Chemistry or Physics at A-level or other science-related subjects or more vocationally-related courses.
