For the Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools Level 3 course you will cover the following content:-
Unit 1: Understand Children’s and Young People’s Development
Between birth and age 19, a child develops physically and mentally. This can include physical movement and coordination, speaking and listening, becoming more social by making friends and expressing feelings. Whilst all this is happening a child is also learning.
Whilst this is happening to all children, it is not at the same rate. Each child develops in their own way and genetics and health can play a big factor in this. Some children may talk later than others or acquire gross motor skills later on. This could be a slight delay or due to a disability.
External factors must also be considered with regards to a childโs development. For example, family support, living environment, friends and culture.
This chapter will cover child and young person development but you will also learn how to monitor development along with interventions such as speech therapy, counselling and 1-to1 support.
Unit 2: Understand How to Safeguard the Wellbeing of Children and Young People
Within the UK, there are laws to help protect children and young people from harm. These laws also help staff understand what they must do if they have a concern about a child.
This chapter will cover safeguarding policies and procedures which help to keep children safe, also recognising signs and symptoms of abuse or neglect. The chapter will also cover bullying along with how to respond quickly to concerns and monitoring the situation.
Technology has become an important part in everyoneโs day-to-day lives and therefore, the course will also touch on social networking, internet use, bullying and using a mobile phone. You will learn ways of reducing risk to children and young people.
Unit 3: Communication and Professional Relationships with Children, Young People, and Adults
Good Communication between adults and children/young people will help build trust, respect and understanding. Being able to express yourself as a child will help you feel valued and safe.
This chapter will help you to understand how to build positive relationships through communication and you will cover different contexts which affect communication such as social settings, professional settings and cultural backgrounds.
The course will help you to communicate effectively with children and adapt communication based on age, context and needs. You will learn how to manage disagreements and the importance of confidentiality.
Unit 4: Schools as Organisations
