The Distance Learning Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) course study modules are based around the professional standards for HLTA status which set out for teachers, employers and parents the contribution to pupils’ learning that HLTAs are expected to make. You do not need any prior learning knowledge or experience to take this course. It is openly available to anyone who wishes to take part in a highly rewarding home study course, although you would be expected to have a reasonable standard of literacy.

The syllabus consists of six modules which are as follows:

Once you have successfully completed this course, you will receive a Higher Level Teaching Assistant certificate of achievement from Training Qualifications UK (TQUK).
The completion of this course alone does not lead to an Ofqual regulated qualification but may be used as evidence of knowledge and skills towards regulated qualifications in the future.
The unit summary can be used as evidence towards your recognition of prior learning if you wish to progress your studies in this sector.
The course itself has been designed by OSC to meet specific learner or employer requirements and Learn Now Distance Learning College are working as a reseller for OSC. The course has been endorsed by TQUK, meaning OSC have undergone external quality checks to ensure that the organisation and the courses they offer meet a high standard. You may need to liaise with parents or staff in regards to progress, learning goals, and support strategies.
Other jobs might include overseeing children’s learning and project-based work through a range of assessment and monitoring strategies against learning intentions, providing feedback to pupils.
If you feel those tasks interest you, then you are off to great start but it is also worth bearing in mind the benefits that might come with working in a school depending on the institution:
If you are not already working within a school, you would need to first apply to become a teaching assistant. Please see our teaching assistant level 3 course for further information.
