FAQs
How can I make payment for the enrolment fee?
You can enrol online right now by Card or PayPal (Visa, Mastercard, Maestro and American Express). Alternatively, we also accept BACS transfer or we can send you a payment link.
Do I have to be available at specific times during the day?
With our courses, we have learners from all over the world enrolled. Therefore, if we restricted your learning to certain times, not everyone would be available. All our courses are accessible 24/7 via our online secure portal. Any videos on your portal would be pre-recorded meaning you can work through your course at your own pace.
How long does it take to pass Functional Skills?
The flexibility of Functional Skills is why it is so popular. They are designed to get you a Level 2 qualification that many universities and employers require quickly. The exams are available monthly, both online or via a local exam centre. So in theory, you could pass your Functional Skills in a matter of weeks, and gain that Level 2 qualification.
What if it takes longer for me to pass than 12 months?
Our Functional Skills courses are flexible. We understand that circumstances change and sometimes things can take a little longer. If you go over the 12 month period then talk to us. We are more than happy to discuss these options with you.
Why do I need to take an exam?
In order to gain a qualification that is accepted universally, in schools, colleges, universities and in the workplace, you have to take an examination. We know that exams are not always a favourite for some people, so we have tried to make them as hassle free as possible by offering online remote exams for our Functional Skills courses. You can sit them at home, in familiar settings, without the hassle of having to find an exam centre to make it as hassle free as possible.
Not only that, but if you choose the online remote exams, then should you not pass first time around, then a free resit is included.
How much are the exams?
Your tutor will go through your options with you once you are ready. When you are ready, then you will need to pay for your exam fees.
Once you are booked in, there is typically a 2-4 week wait before sitting the exam, plenty of time to get in some extra revision.
We can help you find a local exam centre, or we can offer you our online remotely invigilated exams so that you can take them from home.
Below shows the cost of our online exams where they are remotely invigilated (includes one free resit).
Functional Skills English (3 x exams) £195
Functional Skills Maths (1 x exam) £145
Functional Skills ICT (1 x exam) £145
You may be able to find cheaper exam centres out there should you look around. We can help you with a list of centres in the UK. All of the exam centres set their own fees, so we can’t give you exact figures, but typically they range from ¬£80-¬£200 per exam.
Is this course free?
We wish we could offer our courses for free to everyone as they are brilliant!
Unfortunately, we are a private college and we would not survive if we did. You are probably wondering ‚Äòwhy would I pay?’
Well, it depends on what you want from your course.
Our courses are extremely flexible compared to a college course. They are engaging and exciting to learn and you will not get bored!
Also, as soon as you enrol, you can get started immediately and you are NOT restricted by exam dates as they run frequently. Not to mention that all of this can be done from the comfort of your own home!
Wait! We forgot to mention the support you will receive. Our tutors are AWESOME and will help you at each stage throughout the course.
Can I complete Functional Skills Maths quickly?
We provide access and support for 12 months, however we have had learners complete the Functional Skills Maths course as quickly as one month. With the course being online, this makes it extremely flexible for learners and if they have a deadline to meet, they are most likely going to achieve it with our college.
Is Functional Skills Maths Level 2 easier than GCSE Maths?
Whilst the Functional Skills Maths is equivalent to a pass in GCSE Maths , it is also easier to achieve.
There is one exam for Functional Skills whereas there will be at least two exams for GCSE. Also, you will not need to learn tricky numerical calculations such as Algebra.
You will be dealing with questions based on real life situations such as measuring up a room for flooring or calculating the probability of it raining.
Is the Functional Skills Maths Level 2 recognised?
On successful completion of your exam, you will be awarded a qualification which is regulated by Ofqual.
The qualification will be recognised by employers, colleges and universities.
What if I fail the Functional Skills Maths exam?
Your tutor would not put you forward for the exam if they felt you were going to fail. They will ensure that they are confident in you passing before suggesting you sit the exam.
If you do have concerns still, our online exam does include one free resit.
Can I choose the awarding body for my Maths qualification?
Our online invigilated exams are with NCFE.
Our various centres offer NCFE, City & Guilds, Edexcel or OCR. However, please bear in mind that if you require a specific awarding body, you may have to travel further.
Whichever awarding body you are offered, you will come out with the same qualification – Functional Skills Maths Level 2.
It is Ofqual who set the requirements for the qualification and therefore should be minimal differences in the awarding bodies.
What can I do with Functional Skills Mathematics
Even if you don’t have plans to become a mathematician or engineer, basic skills in maths are highly sought after by employers and further education or colleges. See our article English and Maths – Do I need them?
Functional Skills Maths will help you to manage your money such as budgeting, calculating interest and paying bills. It will also help you understand information such as news reports, graphs and statistics.
