The NCFE CACHE Level 3 Award in Home Based Childcare prepares students to set up a home based childcare setting. It is also suitable for students who wish to be employed in home based childcare settings as childminding assistants.

The qualification has been developed in collaboration with the Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years (PACEY).

Unit 1: Preparing to work as a home based child carer (H/506/4745)
  • Legislation and regulation in relation to home based childcare
  • Establishing a safe and healthy home based childcare environment for children
  • Supporting the safeguarding, protection and welfare of children
  • Promoting equality, diversity and inclusion
  • How day-to-day care routines promote children’s wellbeing
  • Working in partnership to support children’s outcomes
  • Children’s, learning and behaviour in relation to sequence, rate and stage development
  • Value of play in a child’s learning and development
  • Role of observation in a child’s learning and development
Unit 2: Preparing to set up a home based childcare business (K/506/4746)
  • Leading and managing a home based childcare setting
  • Financial and taxation requirements
  • Planning and creating a business plan
  • Registering with the appropriate regulatory body

You must successfully complete a series of assessments. Once all assessments and activities have been completed and you have met the required outcomes, you will then be awarded your certificate. The good news is, there is no final exam.

Course Outcome

Once you have successfully completed your assignments and this course, you will receive your NCFE CACHE Level 3 Award in Home Based Childcare – Childminder Route. A certificate will be provided to you as recognition of your achievement.
