There are three exams for the full Advanced Level qualification. The length of each exam is two hours long.

AS Level Exams
There are two exams for the Advanced Subsidiary qualification. The length of each exam is 1 hour 30 minutes long.

This course forms part of the linear qualifications. This means that learners will sit exams for their particular qualification at the end of the completed course in the June series.
You will not be able to carry forward your AS qualification to the A’ Level qualification as they are now classed as entirely independent qualifications and you will sit either AS or A’ Level exams.

Cambridge A Level Mathematics
The Cambridge specification develops a set of transferable skills. These include the skill of working with mathematical information, as well as the ability to think logically and independently, consider accuracy, model situations mathematically, analyse results and reflect on findings.
Learners can apply these skills across a wide range of subjects and these skills will equip you well for progression to higher education or directly into employment.
Please note that Cambridge has two different routes:
- Pure Mathematics and Probability & Statistics only; or
- Pure Mathematics, Mechanics and Probability & Statistics.

The Cambridge Advanced Subsidiary Mathematics Online Course offers three different options:
Pure Mathematics only (Paper 1 and Paper 2) or
Pure Mathematics and Mechanics (Paper 1 and Paper 4) or
Pure Mathematics and Probability & Statistics (Paper 1 and Paper 5)

Please note, the Pure-Mathematics-only option (Paper 1 and Paper 2) leads to an AS Level only and cannot be used as a staged route to a full A Level. Candidates who have taken Paper 1 and Paper 2 at AS Level and then wish to complete a full A Level would need to retake Paper 1 alongside three other components. These should be chosen from the specific combinations below.
A Level
The Cambridge International A Level Mathematics qualification offers two different options:
Pure Mathematics, Mechanics and Probability & Statistics (Papers 1, 3, 4 and 5) or
Pure Mathematics and Probability & Statistics (Papers 1, 3, 5 and 6).

Please note, it is not possible to combine Paper 4 and Paper 6. This is because Paper 6 depends on prior knowledge of the subject content for Paper 5.
Course Outcome
On successful completion of all your exams, you will be awarded one of the following qualifications:

The Pearson Edexcel specification is a popular course. Learners enjoy the flexibility the course provides as there are five routes to choose from for A Level Mathematics alone. For most modules, there are also three exam series per year which means learners can sit unit exams when they are ready.
The course also includes Pearson endorsed eBooks for each unit chosen and access to Integral. Integral is an award-winning online learning platform designed to develop deep independent mathematical understanding.

FAQs
Will I find this course hard?
All Advanced Levels are a step up from GCSE including Mathematics. Algebra becomes more complex in respect of rearranging, functions and proofs. Exam questions generally require multiple steps as opposed to single-skill workings. The course we offer provides structure and good resources to help you with your studies. In addition to our course, we provide logins to Integral an award winning learning platform and full tutor support.
If you enjoy logical problem-solving and are comfortable with algebra, you should have no problems achieving this qualification.

What is Integral?
As part of your Maths course, you will also have access to Integral which provides comprehensive resources to support your study and revision for the subject. Integral covers the whole of the Mathematics curriculum.
Resources are designed to develop the deep understanding and skills you need to excel in maths. They’re structured to guide you through initial learning, practice and then reaching examination standard.
Which subjects should I study alongside this course?
This all depends on what you wish to pursue after but subjects that work nicely alongside Mathematics include:
- Further Mathematics – Combining Mathematics with Further Mathematics will deepen your knowledge of calculus, algebra, matrices and complex numbers. If you are progressing onto Engineering, Physics, Actuarial Science or Mathematics degrees, gaining this knowledge at Level 3 will make the first year at university easier.
- Physics – For pathways onto Engineering, Architecture, Astrophysics or Aviation, these two subjects will reinforce each other. Physics relies heavily on topics such as calculus and algebra and requires logic to problem solve much like Maths.
- Economics – this subject uses graphs and modelling and combines well with mathematical thinking in real-world scenarios. Economics and Maths are strong subjects for progression onto top business schools or universities.
Can I study this course from outside the UK?
AQA can only be taken within the UK and some British Overseas Territories. If you are located outside the UK, you can take the Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel course which offer exam centres worldwide.
AQA,Cambridge (CIE) and Pearson Edexcel provide global recognition for their qualifications and are recognised by universities.At the end of the course you will receive an internationally recognised qualification which will allow you to apply to most universities situated anywhere in the world.
What is the difference between AS and A Level?
AS and A levels are standalone qualifications, however the Full A Level carries more UCAS points than the AS Level. It also requires more study hours as follows:
- AS Level = 180 hours
- A Level = 360 hours

How long does the course take?
You will receive access and support for two years, however you can complete it much sooner if you want to. Exams for this subject fall as follows:
- AQA – May/June
- Cambridge (CIE) – May/June or October/November
- Pearson Edexcel – January and June for most topics but some are also assessed in October
