A Distance Learning Course is the ideal way to gain a qualification without having the worry of trying to fit your studies around your everyday life.  You can complete your studies in your own time and we are on hand seven days a week to help you plan your future.

Course Description

The Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) course has been created in conjunction with experts - FASawareUK.

This Distance Learning course looks at the clinical issues involved in alcohol use during pregnancy, together with the clinical symptoms and developmental outcomes. It then investigates the neuropathology of Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD), including psychopathy and cognitive functioning. Finally, we will examine interventions, including prevention and rehabilitation approaches.

The course aims to:

•    Provide a nationally accredited certificated programme covering a wide range of issues associated with alcohol use during pregnancy and the variety of clinical symptoms and developmental outcomes and possible interventions.
•    Provide a flexible learning opportunity that is accessible to a wide range of learners.
•    Provide the student with knowledge and understanding that can be applied by those who either personally, voluntary or professionally have a special interest in this field.

Autism is a diverse and mystifying condition and has been the focus of much scientific research over the last few decades.  The Autism Awareness course aims to increase your understanding of autism and gives practical suggestions when working with autistic individuals.

Today, autism refers to a wide range of social, language and communication problems.  Severity ranges from hardly there at all, often undiagnosed and even unrecognised, to severe, where it is virtually impossible for people to participate in society.

There are no boundaries between the conditions Kanner and Asperger identified, often people are in-between, whether in between Asperger’s syndrome and Kanner’s, or in between “normal” and Asperger’s syndrome. Therefore, collectively we refer to “autistic spectrum disorder”, or ASD, as this allows for the differences in both symptoms and severity. A person without ASD is called a neuro-typical.

This course will enable you to become familiar with various different approaches to autism, have increased awareness of how to obtain a diagnosis and enable you to understand genetic environmental causes of autism. The Autism Awareness Certificate will also explain how research in other conditions can help research into autism.

Awarding Organisation

At the end of this course successful learners will receive a Certificate of Achievement by ABC Awards and a Learner Unit Summary (which lists the details all of the units you have completed as part of your course).

The course has been endorsed under the ABC Awards’ Quality Licence Scheme.  This means that NCC Home Learning has undergone an external quality check to ensure that the organisation and the courses it offers, meet certain quality criteria.  The completion of this course alone does not lead to an Ofqual regulated qualification but may be used as evidence of knowledge and skills towards regulated qualifications in the future.  The unit summary can be used as evidence towards Recognition of Prior Learning if you wish to progress your studies in this sector.  To this end the learning outcomes of the course have been benchmarked at Level 2 & 3 against level descriptors published by Ofqual, to indicate the depth of study and level of difficulty involved in successful completion by the learner.

The course itself has been designed by NCC Home Learning to meet specific learners’ or employers’ requirements.   ABC Awards’ endorsement involves a robust and rigorous quality audit by external inspectors to ensure quality is consistently met.  A regular review of courses is carried out as part of the endorsement process.
ABC Awards is a leading national Awarding Organisation, regulated by Ofqual, and the Welsh Government.  They have a comprehensive portfolio of over 650 Ofqual regulated qualifications on the national Qualifications and Credit framework (QCF).  It has a long-established reputation for developing and awarding high quality vocational qualifications across a wide range of industries.   As a registered charity, ABC Awards combines 180 years of examination and assessment expertise but also implements a responsive, flexible and innovative approach to the needs of our customers.
